pineo
I am thinking about using MAG 950s for a closed loop system. Has one on used them inline, I am slightly nervous about it. Link to comment
JustReef
I have a Mag 18 that was previously used externally. I plan on firing it up myself for the first time tomorrow. It should be fine. Link to comment
egdevilboy
Im actually wondering the same thing... I plan on hooking up my 92g corner, closed-loop, to a mag 12 externally (if possible). Any more info would be appreciated. Link to comment
121a
don't see why it wouldn't work. They have a threaded inlet which would mean you could do it. Link to comment
chvynva916
I think the concern isn't just with the seal but rather with the ability of the pump to disperse heat. True external pumps have mechanisms to disperse heat and don't rely as much on water cooling. While I know that MANY people have plumbed mags externally with no problem, I wonder if there's a danger that the pump will burn out or even a danger of fire. Link to comment
reefdan
i heard the pump life on mags is significantly shorter when used inline. i have a mag 3 myself but am not running inline Link to comment
pineo
Yea, I have heard they are not great when used inline. The thing is, I already own 2. I don't really want to pony up for 2 ehiem 1262...sigh...I don't know. Link to comment
Rocket
I have the Mag 9.5. I did not pipe it externally due to heat issues. This pump puts out a fair amount of heat. The drive mechanism is sealed in epoxy which does help much with the heat exchange. You could do it. But I would worry about life span. Link to comment
pineo
How about eheim used inline? Does anybody have any experience or opinions on that? Link to comment
