jonny5
Hey What does protein skimming do that other filters do not? Do they all require a sump? Or are their some that run on air pumps? Thanks Jon Link to comment
WhiteShark
To put it simply the basically mimic the ocean waves method of filtration. Ever notice that bubbly white stuff on the shore when you go to the beach? Thats basically what you'll get when you skim. It usues a water pump and injects air into a chamber and mixes the two. Contaiminates bubble up the top of the skimmer and the clean water is forced out. You don't need a sump for a skimmer. There are HOB (hang on back) skimmers, but sump skimmers can be better at times. burtbollinger
airstone (air pump) skimmers suck imo. tell us your setup and perhaps we can help you find a proper skimmer....tey run 100+ dollars....any less and youre buying junk. On a 12 or smaller, I dont think you need a skimmer... I've run tanks with and without....I def. prefer having a skimmer. Link to comment
