Grendel0501
Looking for a return pump for a sump. The sump is only rated for 300gph , so I am going to try and match it with a overflow and pump with that same amount of flow. I really don't think the rating of the sump maters , I intend to gut out the trickle/bioball side and put my skimmer in their place. How powerful of a pump do I need to push the water up 6' and still have 300gph left after the trip? Link to comment

Grendel0501
I didn't know which pump to use , so I picked a 780gph "Quite One" brand pump. After 4 90 degree elbows and 6 feet up , I lose about 400gph. I guess I'll use that as a general outline and look for a 700gph pump. Would it be cheaper to get some kind of pump from the hardware store? Cheapest 700gph pumps I can find are around $50 Link to comment
reefman23
A mag 7 with 6' head and 4 90* elbows with 1" diam pipes will give you about 350gph. Dr. F&S sells the mag 7 for $68. Jesse Link to comment
Grendel0501
Are Taam Rio's a decent choice? I found Taam Rio Hyper Flow 12 for about $45 , it's rated at 750gph. I also found a chart on Taam's site that say they do about 500gph at 6'. Is it going to make a huge difference if I use flexibe tubing instead of pvc? Link to comment
Grendel0501
Anyone know about the Rio Hyperflow's? I can get a HF14 (840gph) for $40 , and according to the chart on Taam's site it does 540 at 6'. Link to comment
