plumbing a canister filter into a closed loop?

Ok so heres my question I want to run a pseudo cryptic fuge on my frag tank. I am taking out all sponges out of a canister filter and just keeping rubble, media bags with sand in them ( for buffering PH ), and chempure with carbon in the baskets. I was wondering if I could plumb the inlet for the filter into the inlet for the CL and the return from the filter into the returns for the CL. Would this cause a problem with the pressure from the pump causing water to flow back into the filter, or would this increase flow to the filter due to a vaccume pressure caused by the water flowing past the pvc T on the return side of the filter. any input would be great.
