Effect of dead snails??

Hey all,

 

Just curious about something. Looks like I got a real punkass hermit that has decided to kill two of my astreas (good thing they're cheap!!). My question is what would be the effect of leaving them in the tank. Will it throw my levels all out of whack like a dead fish would? I think I know the answer but wanted to hear from others who have had this experience.

 

If I leave the shells in the tank will the hermits move into them? Is there a good way to "cure" the shells and then put them back in?

Bigtime. If you've ever removed a dead snail from a tank, you'll know how badly they smell. Ammonia will increase & the dead snail will decay & provide food for algae. Get it out now.

 

Not sure how to "cure" the shell, although boiling it in RO water comes to mind. Tell your girlfriend or wife it's about time the two of you tried escargot.
