does anyone know the max flow i can get through a 1/2 inch bulkhead? i'm thinking 2-3 feet of head. this is a 25 gallon cube, with 2 drains and one return

also, how far from the top should the holes be drilled?

1/2" bulkheads don't flow too great. You can get better performance by drilling them a bit deaper and using a standpipe. If you place them at water level with the strainer as pictured they will flow on the order of 100gph ea max.

I used to use one on my 6g refugium with an iwaki md 10 feeding it under 4' of return head. That would work out to about 120gph. I then had to throttle back the pump a bit farther before the overflow could keep up.

With a standpipe, so there is positive pressure pushing the water out of the bulkhead, I would guess a flow rate closer to 200gph each. Hope this helps. ;)
