From sump to SCWD - safe?

Another newbie question. I was thinking of using a SCWD to return water from the sump back to the tank via a EHEIM 1262. My concern is actually with the SCWD's reliability.

 

1. Is there a delay when the SCWD switches from one end to the other? If there is, that means the sump water level will keep getting higher and higher (in small increments), and can over flow in time.

 

2. Does the SQWD clog up? Again, if does, the sump will overflow.

 

Anyone doing this? What's a good solution?

Get the 1" SCWD. It has a removable top to clean if it does clog.
