So I've been thinking Sea Apple since they are nicely colored, are everywhere and

I can make a phyto net(tons of phyto will be fed). But would a skimmer remove phyto ??

I know the hot debate of a skimmer over skimming but I havn't heard much about phyto and skimemrs.

This is just a curiosity since I currently can't setup anything.. In 1 month I'll get something together.

Skimmers not only remove DOC's but some particulate matter in the water column as well (phyto, pods, some larger macromolecules, food particles, etc.). I have a crappy skimmer right now (getting my Sapphire in the mail tomorrow yay!!) but even so I still don't use it anywhere near feeding time. I run it for a good 6 hrs a day because I love that pristine water look, but some may think I'm overskimming. I think you just have to play around with it and see what works for your tank.
