rev138
Hi, My office just got an RO system, but it adds calcium and magnesium to the water after filtering. I'm assuming the calcium won't be a problem, but what about the magnesium. Is it reef safe? Link to comment

smedge
Magnesium is found in natural seawater at around 3x the concentration of calcium. Many calcium additives also contain magnesium. Not only is it reef safe, its reef necessary. I would deinately measure the Mg after I mix up saltwater though to be sure it's not obscenely high. Overly hi mag could make it difficult to maintain Kh due to the carbonate combining with excess magnesium and coming out of solution. Link to comment
davidncbrown
How much does it add do you know? If it's a significant amount you might want to run it through a DI filter before using to make saltwater. Link to comment
rev138
Thanks for the replies. I'll take some to my LFS for testing before I use it. Link to comment
vangvace
I'd save up the pennies to get my own test kit down the road as well... Link to comment
