mbender71
This is my first post and i'm a newbie to nanos as well so please be gentle! I'm currently designing my own nano and I'm currently thinking about the fuge. I would like know what the wonderful reefers here use for their fuge lighting schedule. I've read articles on the benefits of lighting your fuge on a reverse schedule from the main tank. Benefits include a more balanced pH level during a 24 hour period. Do any of the aquarists here use this reverse lighting schedule? Many thanks for reading this post! Link to comment
MrConclusion
The day/night water quality stability effect of counterlighting depends on what kind of livestock you have in your refugium. If the refugium is empty, or just sand and rock, there isn't much benefit. If you have lots of photosynthetic life in there, then the effect is greater. The best results with macroalgae (with sand and maybe rock) refugiums seems to be when you light it as much as possible, there's no reason to do less than 24 hours with many installations. This also has a stabilizing effect. Link to comment
matteo_gugliotta
My lights are on for 24 hours a day. There is non need to use expensive and high wattage lighting. I use a 15w PC light for a 5g refugium. Link to comment
