weird ammonia test

When I test the ammonia on my newly set up tank ( couple of weeks) the solution turns cloudy. Kind of a pearly yellow.

 

Another question: my ph is 9. Is this high? What are the causes and remedies?

yes 9 is high. you want it between 8.0 and 8.4

im not sure about the ammonia test though

mabey its your test kit

but if im a little unsure about my tests i go to my LFS and let them test it

We need to know what brand of test kits you're using, and you need to check the expiration dates on the kits.

I hope you're not using Red Sea, cause they're pretty inaccurate.

The ammonia tests were done with both Sera and API.

 

What could be causing my high PH and how do I manage it?

For one your tank is still cycling I use the API test kits and The solution will turn cloudy you may not be showing any ammonia yet either so the test isnt finding it hence the off color (mine does this as well) I also find the color depends alot on the lighting you are comparing the colors under.
