katydidit
This may seem like a stupid question to some of you, but when a perc is younger (like less than an inch), do they have way less black on them than the adult species do? I'm only asking because I think I was mis-sold a clown...and I'm not sure if its an occelaris or a percula...Can you guys help me out?? Link to comment
ross76053
...joining this thread 'cause I wanna know too..... Link to comment
katydidit
I still do need some advice on whether you think I have a true perc or not (like I said, he is a baby, its hard to tell). I did however find this website, but my little guy doesnt stay still long enough for me to do some of these 'tests' the website has to do to determine it...maybe this will help you out some ross?? http://saltaquarium.about.com/library/blan...k/blpercula.htm Link to comment
ross76053
Ah...I like it. Although I find counting the dorsal spines humorous. Like you can actually count them. Link to comment
katydidit
no kidding. Even if they are somewhat still, 10 and 11 are pretty much the same dang thing.... Link to comment
seabass
About the only way to count spines is from a photo. However, I can’t seem to take a good enough picture of my clownfish with my digital camera; I’m guessing that the auto exposure is causing blurring whenever it moves. Link to comment
katydidit
didnt think of the photo method, but a picture is almost as hard to get as counting the spines when moving... Link to comment
TiGs
Another method is by the eyes. True percs eyes have more orange while false have black beedy eyes. Link to comment
TiGs
False perc. see the difference in the eyes Link to comment
katydidit
aw man, i was hoping to have a true (for size issues). But I guess that sole inch really wont make too much of an issue in my minibow, do you think? Link to comment
