dsg7777
I have had my tank up and running for about 1 week, the PH, heat, and salinity is great, and I just added live rock and a powerhead a few days ago. What I need to know is what a good light cycle would be? Its a crappy 6 watt bulb, wondering if I should have it on at all, and if so for how long per day? Thanks Link to comment
jasontatro
The prevailing opinion that I have received here is somewhere between 2-5 hours a day, to minimize algal blooms. Hope this helps. Link to comment
Physh1
Either that or no light at all. I prefer no light myself. If you do light it use real reef lights....using the wrong lights/lamps is just inviting algae issues. Cameron Link to comment
Coho
when you mean no light do you mean like cover it with a blanket and place it in the closet or..just a room with the shades drawn?? Shawn Medford Oregon Link to comment
jasontatro
No light, means no additional lighting other than the ambient room light. Phish1 was referring to using the hood or canopy that comes with the tank and that 6 watt light. It would produce very bad algae. Don't go putting the tank in the closet under a blanket because you don't want everything to on the rock to die. Link to comment
