bdare
If you can get some of the OLD dowflake you'll be ok. The new stuff has bromide in it. If you can get a hold of Tetra CaCl it is also very good. I use the Tetra Briners Grade. Just look on thier website and call them. They will put you in contact with a local distributor. If nothing else you can alway buy CaCl from a place like www.bulkreefsupply.com Link to comment
The Propagator
Swimway calcium from your local pool supply shop. Use the reef chemistry calculator and choose dow flake as your medium. Its 100% calcium chloride dihydrate. ( why is my spell check telling me I miss spelled dihydrate ? WTF ! ) It comes in crystal powder form and all you do is mix it up with your RO/DI top off water and drip it in. $4.00 for an 8lb bucket that will last you a WHILE. Been using it my self for a while now with great success. To be safe though I always strain it through a brine net. Its possible to get some chewed gear teeth and what not in with those powders not meant for aquarium use. So I always strain them after mixing. Link to comment
The Propagator
I was SKEERED at 1st. BELIEVE ME. I WAS !! But I tried it out in my 40 that only had a few very replaceable crap corals in it for a month 1st and everything was fine. Link to comment
