hey all,

im the fng here and have a ques.... currently i am using two mini compact lights ( the screw in type) for my 10 gal tank. they are a coralife mini compact 50/50 (10,000k and actinic), and an all glass 6500k(both are 10w). i am in the proccess of building a custom hood and was thinking of changing the lighting to the regular compact.. the one with the pins.... which is better? is there such a thing as too much light?... i had also thought of rigging something that would use multiple minicompacts... any suggestions? thanks in advance...

screw-ins use an integrated ballast (i.e. no ballast required)

the "aquarium" style, pinned bulbs, would allow you (if desired) to install a ballast remote. this would cut down on some heat in your hood.

i don't know how much those screwin bulbs cost (coralife bulbs) but i'm guessing that they'd be more expensive in the long run
