flaunt Posted March 23, 2002 Share Posted March 23, 2002 Well I finally have gotten some pics of my surge device with the refugium. Here they are: This shows my whole setup, 10g w/1g refugium and surge device. Here is a closeup of the surge device and refugium together: The refugium consists of a 1g clear rubbermaid container connected to the surge container by a piece of 1" PVC with an adapter on the surge end (I wanted to make it somewhat removable). There are about 4 inches of aragmax in the bottom and a small piece of LR. The light in this picture is just a little lamp I got at walmart that has an incandescent bulb. I sometimes instead put my small 15W NO unit over it. I mainly am interested in algae growth for the refugium, any suggestions about which light would be better for that? I thought the incandescent would suffice since algae likes yellow light but I notice more growth with the fluorescent. Also, should I add some more LR to the refugium? Here is the refugium just before surge: And just after: Judging by the occasional drifting particle I see in the refugium, I believe the water flow is adequate from this surge/refill routine... Also, I was able to adjust the surge device so that they main aquarium water level still only goes down about an inch before surging (sorry no new pics showing that). I was thinking about it, I really could add a second 1g refugium on the other side of the surge device if I wanted to. For now though I'll make my life easier. Oh, on a side note here's a pic of the coral-banded shrimp I added just last week: Let me know what you all think. I'm always open to suggestions as usual.
