70w MH in canopy......Too Close ?

Hello,

 

What are the dangers in putting a MH unit a few inches from the water surface ?

 

I intend to put some fans in to keep the temp down a bit, i noticed someone mentioning UV burn ?

 

Does this only happen when no shielding is used /

What is the height of the canopy? I've had uv burn occur w/ glass/sheilding so it's still possible. Heat will/can also be an issue. If you go with a 10" - 12" canopy you'll be fine IMO but going w/ halides on a 6" canopy probably isn't the best idea.
