yimmerz
why is an open top tank the preferred way to go? Link to comment
katydidit
more air = less heat given off by the lights= more stable temp in tank Link to comment
MrConclusion
Open top is the best, unless you want to keep fish that are prone to jumping, or if your lights are at risk from spray. Link to comment
yimmerz
any other reason besides the temp? Link to comment
JohnnyMTB
Glass tops get covered in salt deposits which will reduce amount of light reaching tank, though I doubt it's enough to worry about. I have 96 watts of light over my 10g so anything that helps keep it cooler is a good thing. I keep the eggcrate lighting grid over my tank, it's open to keep it cool but fish can't jump out through the grates. You can pick those up at Home Depot and cut to fit. Link to comment
