Own an ASM skimmer?

I use an ASM mini-g skimmer (the smallest of the line) on my 20L reef. I had been somewhat frustrated with it's tendency to get clogged up at the air-intake nozzle with salt creep and calcium crust, and the accompanying loss of performance. I had been cleaning the nozzle out with a pin every week or two for a year now, and finally got tired of having to take it apart so frequently. So, I took a drill bit slightly wider than the inside of my air intake nozzle, and bored it out, making the opening wider.

 

Not only does my skimmer work well for longer between cleanings, but widening the air-intake hole has improved the performance of my skimmer dramatically. It pulls much more air, and produces a thicker and darker foam, more quickly than it ever has.

 

I just thought I'd throw that out there for others to try.
