SaltyinNJ
I have a 7 gal minibow running for approximately7 weeks now. I have 7 1/2 lbs. lr, 10 lbs. sand seeded with 2 cups ls 3 weeks ago. Inhabitants percula clown, 2 hermits and 3 margarita snails. I had 2ppm nitrates after a brief cycle initially, but my nitrates have been undetectable the past 2 days. Test kit is fine. Same thing with ammonia and nitrite. Now the thing that puzzles me is that I expected my nitrates to be going up with the heavier bioload, but it hasn't. I know this is a good thing. But, I thought this couldn't happen so soon, and I am not sure what the cause is. I don't have a dsb, and I do 1 gal water change weekly. Can anyone explain this process behind this? Thanks. Dave ESPI
you are in a pree 3 month equilibrium phase.. the consumers are eating up the mutrients as fast as they are being made... this is a critical phase... dont add a ton of new stuff, or change foods or increase foods.... you will get a back lash... just let the tank run fer 3 months or so. PATIENCE young Skywalker........... You are not Jedi like me yet. Link to comment
