Dennis
I'm in the process of setting up a 10-gallon reef. I plan on getting "live sand" from the ocean (I'm on the east central Florida coast) and perhaps even use real seawater. Eventually, I hope to stock my critters from the ocean as well. But, I'll have to buy my "live rock" since it's illegal to take it from Florida state waters. So my question is, can I cycle the tank with just the water, live sand, live rock & a powerhead? ??? I'm looking to build a hood like Ross did. But it seems sort of time consuming, so I thought I could get my tank cycled while I'm building it... Link to comment
seabass
You can cycle without lights. Lights will be needed to keep the coralline on your LR alive. Other life that feeds off of algae might also suffer from lack of food if you have no lights. Link to comment
penguin87
in other words, you CAN cycle without lights, but it is highly unreccomended. Link to comment
