nannodad
Do UV sterilizers really remove all algae or is that BS? Link to comment
lakshwadeep
Only things in the water column. I used it successfully when my tank had green water one time. Link to comment
Urchinhead
UV Sterilizers do not "remove" algae. What they do, in simple terms, is kill any algae that is in the water column by irradiating it with UV wavelength light. They also kill parasites, bacterium, and viri. They do not kill stuff already on the glass, sand, or rock. The key to their effectiveness is the amount of "hang time" that the water has being exposed to the UV. In general for 9W units you want 40-60 gallons per hour of flow in order to kill the maximum amount of stuff. Link to comment
moneyman6891
My boss put one on the African display tank at work and it in a month there is a significantly less amount of algae. He also cleans the glass every other day to get the stuff in the water column. Link to comment
