Chronicles
I have a 15gal high tank with 18lbs of live sand and 12lbs of live rock so far. My cycle is ending and my water is at 0 ammonia, off the charts nitrites, and 20ppm Nitrates. My question is do I keep my biowheel which is in the eclipse hood or ditch it? Link to comment
SteveC
There are people who say you should ditch it and people who say you shouldn't. This has been discussed several times recently, so I recommend doing a search for "biowheel" and reading those threads. Link to comment

kennerd
ditch it. I ran an Eclipse 1 hood on my 12 gallon for a few years. Bought the set up that way, once I removed the biowheel, trates began to slowly disappear. I used that small area to put a bag of Phos-guard or Nitrate sponge in a filter bag when needed. i did run the filter cartridges, changing them frequently. Link to comment
tanker
Agree with Kennerd. This is the way I ran my eq12 for a year+. The Bio-wheel just makes too much nitrates. Link to comment
chufa
Sorry to be devils advocate, but do NOT ditch it. Like SteveC says, this is a controversial subject. Nitrates will dissappear with enought time with the biowheel on. People are too impatient. Also, biowheeels do not starve live rock, that is a foolish misconception. Link to comment
