maxijazz
Just looking for peoples feeling on this, do ye run your skimmer 24/7 or just for an hour or two at night ( just night so you cant hear it ) like I was told, becausing overskimming is not great on trace elements therfore your corals. peasey
it really depends on who you talk to. I ran my skimmer on my 75g all day except when I was feeding, but I'm currently skimmerless on my 28g and wondering if I really need it or not. Personally, I don't see a reason that you couldn't just run it at nighttime while you're asleep; that is if you don't worry about it overflowing, etc. Link to comment

2OceanLovers
There is no such thing as overskimming. The reduction in trace elements from skimming 24/7 is not noticeable on any but the very best test kits, and even then it is a very small reduction. Also, skimmers work the best if you have the constant foaming of running it 24/7. Mine takes at least 2-3 hours to build a foam head to bring out organics. Check out wetwebmedia for more info.
