Flipturn88
Is it alright if I get LR from someone who has a well-established tank? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to this method? Thanks ~Kayla Link to comment
tinyreef
pros no cycling, more established (i.e. larger) fauna, cheaper(?) cons less bio-diversity, any inherited issues go for it imo the lower bio-diversity is the only thing that comes to mind but that isn't an issue at all with many (most?) reefers. the LR will function just as well or maybe even better than fresh LR (the larger microfauna/flora processing more). SteveC
The plus side of less biodiversity is a much lower chance of getting something nasty. Unless this LR is from a person fond of mantis shrimp, hairy crabs, isopods and hair algae! You can always add diversity by getting live sand from any of the aquaculture rock vendors or one of the packages from ipsf.com. I'd go for it. Link to comment
Flipturn88
Thanks. It sounds like a great deal. I'd be saving over 100 bucks!!! Just wanted to make sure that it would be ok. ~Kayla Link to comment
