Jandree22
Do you need one? No Are they benneficial? Yes Worth the money/trouble? Maybe They are benneficial because they add extra water capacity to your aquarium thus abrupt changes in temp and salinity are harder to cause. It also clears out obstructions in your tank and allows you to place all your equipment below and out of sight. Finally you can set up a tiny refugium in one. However, theres a lot more to take into consideration when going with a sump system. It's not as easy as hanging on a HOB filter and plugging it in. In the end it comes down to a personal decision as to if you wanna hassle with it. As you can see they're beneficial in several ways, but by no means are they necessary. HTH ~Joel Link to comment
reefan
If your drilling the tank while you at it I would drill the tank for a closed loop system to. JJ Link to comment
