I've noticed on some of the members tanks that they are running power filters with bit's of LR & LS in them. What is the amount and what else might be used in the filter well? Thanks in advance! ELGORDOINAVW Posted July 16, 2003 Share Posted July 16, 2003 ok the purpose to doing that is to circulate water, not really filtering, only time you filter in a powerfilter is when you use carbon in a bag and place it in the filter. the lr,ls not really recommended because the flow will carry the sand away. the lr one will add extra bio filtration, provide a place for pods to live and hide safe from predators and when you add a light and macro algae the algae will cling to the lr and the macro will help absorb nitrates. do a search for aqua clear refugiums, you'l get alot of info and pics.
