ucsd reefer
I've been cycling my tank and this algae started appearing on top of my LR. First noticed it after I added in an additional 4 lbs of LR, 7 astrea snails, and 4 Hermits. A few hours after the addition of the LR and critters, I tested the water and had 0 nitrites and 5-10 nitrates. Any suggestions? Thanks! Link to comment
Vincerama
It sort of looks like a sponge! V Link to comment
Orange Crush
but the brown stuff on top of the sponge looking thing would be diatoms. Micro algae. It's a phase of a new tank, or a symptom of overfeeding/high bioload. In the case of a new tank, it'll go away. Link to comment
Crakeur
it looks like an encrusting coral to me. could be bleached. I have spots of this on my rock too. Link to comment
ucsd reefer
Thanks for the help! I was only referring to the brown stuff ontop of the sponge-looking thing, which is a portion of the LR that i got. I can provide more pics when I get home to give you guys a better idea at what you're looking at. I reduced my light cycle by a hour as well, hopefully the brown stuff are diatoms as orange crush suggested and they will go away with time. Link to comment
