deacon hemp
I'm no expert but it looks like some type of hidden cup coral, kind of like sun polyps. They may be non-photosynthetic,just wait till a pro can i.d. it.i may be right for a test use a mini flashlight at night and see if polyps come out...and most likely it will need to be fed. Crakeur
sure looks like the polyps are out now. Link to comment
ucsd reefer
The polyps seem to be sticking out more and more these days. Any other ideas as to what it is? Link to comment
FlyGTI
No idea, but it's cool, and you're a lucky bastage! Nice find! Let us know how it does long term. Link to comment
ucsd reefer
Looking through various coral specimens..I think it may be of the flower pot variety.. Link to comment
jjharrisx4
Count the "fingers" on the polyps. If it is goniopora/alviopora that'll tell you the difference. Link to comment
BlackSumbel
It looks to me like it's -growing- from that branch (in other words, doesn't look like any flowerpot coral I've seen). This might be stating the obvious, I don't know. Either way, err on the side of caution and assume it'll be a hard coral to take care of. That way you'll be pleasantly suprised if it isn't, and victoriously correct if it is. -Sumbel. Who's looking around for simmilar corals right now. Link to comment
ucsd reefer
It seems like flower pot to me. The stems just tend to get longer and longer. I'll take a pic this evening with the stems fully extended and post it up. Link to comment
cmoreash
LUCKY! looks like goniopora to me too, there's a variety like that at my LFS rite now Link to comment
jjharrisx4
Yeah...I'd say a branching goniopora. Tough to keep for long...a good hitchiker to try, but not something I'd ever purchase on purpose. They just don't usually make it. Link to comment
