robertjag
My first attempt at reef keeping. Photos taken this evening of just introduced LR. AGA 7 Minibow Aquaclear 300 HOB 10 lb. LR Approx. 6lb. live sand Visitherm 50w heater in HOB CSL 32w PC retrofit DIY 60mm Sunon fan to cool lights Azoo light 7w 7200k for semi-fuge in HOB DIY blue moonlight LED Fan is powered by adjustable supply (1.5v to 12v) to vary fan speed if necessary. Lights and fan are plugged into a timer outlet; when the lights come on, the fan comes on. LED is on all the time but you can only see it when the main lights are off. It is powered by a 12v 100ma supply. There is (probably too much) caulerpa in the HOB along with two small pieces of LR and the heater. The water flow is probably too fast for a true fuge. Spotted 3 bristleworms in one of the rocks, and a couple tiny snails. Added Fritz Turbo-Start 900 (the refrigerated kind) for additional cycle help. Will be watching the water and will add some critters in a couple of weeks (have a couple short business trips that need to be completed first.) Link to comment
pjtech
You have almost the exact same set-up as me. I even have the AQ300 in hopes of making a fuge out of it. You said you have to much flow have you tried using a 150 prop? Did you basically just put the lr and caulerpa in the filter box? No other mods? All I have set up now is water in the tank. Testing my temps. AGA 7 Minibow Aquaclear 300 HOB 10 lb. LR (will order next week) 10 lb. live sand (will order next week) Visitherm 50w heater in HOB CSL 32w PC retrofit (no fan staying steady at 80 light on and 76 light off) You are about 2-3 weeks a head of me so if any input would be great. Looks good so far so good. Patjs Link to comment
pjtech
Did you have to cut the hood to make the AQ300 fit ?? Patjs Link to comment

Yep...no mods...although I'm considering doing something like this: ac300 fuge You are about 2-3 weeks a head of meso if any input would be great. Took a water sample to my LFS today, and they cleared it. The Turbo Start as well as the fully cured rock apparently cycled the tank very quickly. So I added a cleanup crew...sifting star, a few snails, and hermits. Had to put a notch in the cover to allow the AC 300 to fit: Link to comment
