Rickenbacker28
Is there a suitable non-live sand that can be used for non saltwater fish?? if yes, what brand? Link to comment
Mnesarchus
Sand for freshwater fish? You could always use marine sand like agra cause it's the nicest, but playsand is much cheaper.. you can buy it at home depot and places like that. Link to comment
SLOreefer
what kid of fish are you planning on keeping? if you plan on keeping anything other than high ph fish i wouldnt recommend using sand or anything unless you get special ph balanced sand i think seachem might make some.... Link to comment

jebus
pool filter sand from a pool supply store. looks better than white sand for fw Link to comment
offsprg01
yes play sand is fine. i used it for years in my cichlid tanks. it has no buffering properties (good seeing as how you need lower ph than cichlids do) use it it won't hurt. but use a very thin layer otherwise it will go anerobic on you. (not good if you ever get any fish that dig) Link to comment
onthefly
See my low budget 5.5ga nano post in the members section! I used Quikcrete commercial grade medium sand.....very white, and very fine grains.......$6/100lbs Link to comment
