Is it normal for a watchman goby to disappear?

I just bought him today and after a few hours he all of a sudden disappeared. The first thing I thought of was to see if the cat is licking her lips and she wasn't. Is it normal for them to disappear like this? Maybe diggging under a rock or something?

I hope it didn't jump.:( Gobies are good jumpers. However, it might just be shy because of its new environment.

Hiding under rockwork is a very normal behavior. My yellow watchman was hardly ever out anywhere but at his hole.

Yours just may need some time as he/she adjusts to its new home.

Any non free swimming fish and my shrimp, that I have ever had, have all hid immediately for a day or two when I first got them.

My cleaner shrimp I got last week NEVER came out until the lights were off for the first couple of days, never saw him.

Now he is always out running around and will crawl into my hand every time i put it in the tank.

Your goby should be comin out once he gets comfortable.
