LiveRock
Any truth that algae like Grape Caulerpa is able to consume nitrate and improve water quality? Link to comment
Mnesarchus
Macros have never made any difference in my tank, I dont know why. They are supposed to outcompete the smaller (micro)algaes for nutrients, but I've never noticed any difference. Link to comment
Crakeur
macro algaes do outcompete microalgaes for nutrients but they can become a nuisance themselves. Go ask winter hehe. Link to comment
Jahkaya
Try spaghetti Macro. It generally stays in a bunch Caulerpa can be a real pain if it gets in your main tank. Besides WC's a large fuge with good growing macro is one of the best ways to get Nitrates out of a tank. It doesn't always out compete hair algea though, Just ask Crakeur. It is "supposed" to increase water quality, but as Mnesarchus states it does not always work. It can't hurt to have one. It will always give more stablilty with additional water volume. Masoch
If your desirable weeds aren't out-competing the undesirables, try adding a small (1/4 or 1/8 manufacturer's reccomended) dose of iron. Your desirables may be resource-limited. FWIW, kalk dripping might also help by removing phosphates. For me, kalk + iron = rampaging caulerpa growth in refugium with dying-back hair in display. Sorry if I'm incoherent, but I have an excuse ... my wife just had our second baby this AM. Everyone's napping and I'm nerding Link to comment
