KOFP
From an internal overflow, a hang-on overflow, to a 90 degree elbow (a pvc elbow with a strainer)...which would you prefer as an intake to your sump? -KOFP Link to comment
SPS20
Generally, an internal overflow is best. If you can swing a rear coast-to-coast overflow, that is ideal, or check out what this guy is doing: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...p;#entry1410449 Its a pretty neat idea, and would do a really good job of surface skimming while having almost no footprint in the tank. My next build is going to have this kind of overflow. Link to comment
HecticDialectics
actually, imo... a coast to coast is not ideal if you are going for trying to surface skim as much as possible. You get much more surface skimming area if you come in from each side an inch or two and have those 2 extra 3-4 inch edges. It gives you a net 4-6 inches extra surface area to skim. ----------- versus |__________| Link to comment

Clever... definitely a crapload extra surface area. Link to comment
