Tuxedo Urchin's are aggressive feeders!

I bought a blue Tuxedo urchin to help clean up my hair algae. It has been working on one rock in particular for about 2 days. Not only has it eaten the hair but it has eaten everything else on the rock as well. The rock was stripped white!.....Wow, what a worker!

The only reason they're plowing through that hair algae of yours is because they know what's on the other side. They're coralline addicts. Bear this in mind when adding one to the tank.

I read an article by James Fatheree (I think) that stated that urchins really aren't much good for cleaning up hair algae, as the filamentous nature of it actually wears down their teeth.

Very ineresting; well what ever his reasons I think I finally have this hair algae thing licked. The Urchin and the other herbivores in my tank have really done a number on the stuff.
