botak
I am setting up a AGA 7Gallon, for livesand they cost $30 for a big bag but I dont need that much sand on the tank since it's only a 7G, can I just use a home depot play sand instead? I still have some left from my FW tank, I will do get about 8lbs of LR... Link to comment
sammy33
Southdown is a good cost effective option. See if you can get a donation of about 1/2 lb of "live sand" from a LFS to seed it. The donation sand should have some bacteria and micro critters to get things kick started. Link to comment

Angel
Look here: http://www.justphish.com/drygoods/southdownsand.htm It shows you what the bag looks like, so you can see if you can find it locally. Link to comment
