syaeger
I've just finished cycling my tank and today bought an Ocellaris Clownfish. I was considering buying a Spotted Hawkfish that was in the same tank (50 gal) with the clownfish I bought at the LFS. The Hawkfish is still small, about 2 inches. What I've read they can get up to 5 inches and are semi-aggressive. Would it be compatible with the Clownfish in my tank? Brianc_4
I think a hawkfish is a great addition to an aquarium, but it will get too large for a 10 gallon, most people recommend a minimum of 30gal for hawkfish. Most sp. will grow up to 5 inches. They are somewhat territorial and may chase other fish, but don't usually do too much harm, unless there is a big difference in size, if it can fit it in his mouth he will. They also will eat small crabs, shrimp and any worm it can find. So inverts and sand critters are at a definite risk with one of these guys. I would hold off on getting one unless you get a bigger tank. Good luck!! Link to comment
