Abalone-Do they breed like crazy...

I was recently at a LFS and was suprised to see Carribean Abolones for sale. I didn't know abolone were available for sale at all. Someone working at the store said that little tiny baby abalonies were apearing in the tank that he housed the bigger ones in.

Has anyone had any success growing abalone offspring in their tanks? How long do abalonies live for? And to those of you that have tried them out, what do think about the creature in general?

Please post anyhting you know about these critters.

only had mine for a month but here's what's I have observed.

 

- Very shy, I never see mine unless i catch him in the morning before the lights come on. The rest of the day he spends in a very slim overhang out of sight.

 

- When i have seen him, he's munching away at the hair algae on my rocks. I think this guy is the main reason for me kicking my algae problem.

 

I have no idea about how they brred, as i have one. I'd be curious as to what you find.
