reefguru21
Okay during my last observation in my 29gallon I noticed a small leather cutting I had made from a dying coral recieved in a shipment we recieve at the LFS i work at. I always thought it to be some sort of sinularia or fuzzy lobophytum. It lavender with redish-mustard colored polyps and they pulse??? Every two or three second the polyps pump like that of Xenia??? Does anybody have a similiar softie or any info about leather coral polyps pulsing Link to comment
tinyreef
bump some leathers, especially long-polyped toadstools, will contract their polyps as they feed and sometimes i've seen them pulse semi-regularly as a feeding response (jmo). they are not completely photosynthetic as xenia are thought to be (imo xenia also feed but probably nanoplankton-level foods) but i've yet to see a definitive reason on xenia pulsing tho. i think the 'pulsing' is normal behavior.
