Marine Snow?

I feed Marine Snow at the rate of 1 capfull ( 5 ml. ) in my 10 gallon tank daily. This is twice the recomened rate but the bottle says it won't hurt to over feed. There will be no build-up of nutrients. I do this for my Kenya Tree and Feather Duster. Tonight I get home from work and test the nitrates and they are around 14. Did a 20% water change. Everything has been finr for the 3 1/2 months the tank has been up. Will this cause the nitrates to raise and the lable on the bottle is wrong? Should I look else where for the problem?

Any time you overfeed your tank, whether it be food or phyto, eventually the nitrates will raise. Each individual systems anaeorobic bacteria can only convert so much into nitrogen and oxygen. The remaining nutrients will be converted by nicterbacteria into nitrates. I would be suspect of any product that says you can not over feed, and if everything was fine before, it is most probably the cause.

Good luck

;)
