30g DIY Cube Tank

Agua-man

Recommended Posts

The original concept has been to create a tank with absolutely no equipment inside the main tank. As you may remember the original idea came from another hobbyist several years ago and since then many have introduced their version of this guys great idea, and now I’m no exception; my tank is by no means better or worse than the original just different.

My tank is a 30g cube with the dimensions of 21” W x 17” D x 21” H constructed out of 3/8” Spartech PolyCast General Purpose Acrylic. The 2” euro-bracing is made of the same type of material except is ¼” instead of 3/8”. The bottom panel is ½” Type I grey PVC, the reason being I wanted to be able to drill the bottom with out the possibility of cracking which can happen with acrylic, so read.

For water movement and filtration I modified a Marine Labs 350 canister filter to include the heater, auto-top off, mechanical filtration and a one watt LED just for looks. The ¾” return and drain are set 5” on center from the back wall and 4” on center from each other. Also they are 2” above the bottom panel and hidden with live rock. I supported the rock that hides the drain and returns with egg create. Because the drain and returns sit at 2” above the bottom panel I can easily put a 2” sand bed without any problem.

Also I made the 25 Seoul LED lights shown the pics.
