Quincyman
Hey guys, When is it too soon to add any life to a new tank. Can snails and shrimp be added during the cycle? Link to comment
newbiefishgirl
I am not an expert at this, but I have done loads of reading!! My cycle is just about over, thank goodness. I would have to say that you really should not add any type of live animal to the tank yet. It's kinda a crule thing to do to the animal because they are going to struggle thro the entire cycle and most likely will result in death. You can on the other hand to jump start the cycle add a raw shrimp from the grocery store. I did this and it helped the ammonia to spike. How long has your tank been up and running?? WHat are the readings. These are important pieces of info that the more experienced ppl on here will want to know to better help you. Good luck!! Link to comment
FlyGTI
I wouldn't add either to a cycling tank. They're too sensitive to swings in water chemistry. If you must have life in your tank during the cycle, do it with a damsel. They're about as tough as you can get, and their bodies will handle the nitrogen cycle pretty easily. Link to comment
