Completely depends if you need a hang on style or standalone/sump model.

 

Take a look at the CPR Bakpak II or the Prizm

Aqua C Remora HOB or the Urchin if you want an in-sump model

Shoot...go bigger than that. Get a nice Berlin or a Euro-Reef and throw it in the sump, if your sump is big enough.

I would look into the Aqua C Remora. It's a bit more expensive though.

I have an Aqua C on my 16 gal, and I love it. I would not recommend any other HOB skimmer other than the Remora's from Aqua C. Good product, good customer service (jason the owner responds to you directly)

I haven't tried any other skimmers but my own Aqua C remora does a good job aerating the water and removing a portion of the organic proteins from the water. It is quite expensive though, not very quiet and needs an overflow or preskimmer to remove surface scum.

I use a CPR BakPak but recently I noticed that I havn't had to use it that much because everytime I turn the foam on I don't really get any more of the really thick brown and green junk anymore. I just get lite almost clear stuff now. It looks more like water than antheing else, so I stopped using it. I think the plenum finally kicked in. The tank has been up for only 4.5 months and already it has an acro, pocillapora, gold maximas, lps, and softies. I'll probably just use the skimmer for water flow for now.
