I'm from Australia and not familiar with how many litres in a gallon.

 

I have found 2 different conversions

 

1 gallon = 3.78 Litres

 

or 1 gallon = 4.?? Litres

 

which one do people refer to be a gallon?

3.78 i believe is correct. 4 is usually used just to get an estimate.

Yes, it is 3.78. We just use 4 because it makes the math easier. If you don't need an exact number it's just quicker.

1 US gallon = 3.79 liters
