heat question

I have (2) 13w lights on my 5.5. I got them from AH supply about 6 months ago. I seem to be getting a lot of heat build up now (heater is not the problem). The back of my hood is partially covered since I had to mount the ballasts. Is this normal? Or could it be that my bulbs are going since I do get a little salt creep on them. The bulbs are 50/50 from hellolights.

bump

i don't think the bulbs are bad yet. that would be a little quick plus heat wouldn't be the indication. spectrum shift or lower light emitted would be. altho the lack of circulation isn't helping the bulbs. it wouldn't matter for mh's but it definitely affects pc's and other fluorescents. pc's usually effectively last between 10~14 months ime.

add a muffin fan or re-locate the ballasts (recommended). the ballast is the transformer for the current. i never like that over water if you can help it. remote ballasts are safer and last longer (away from the heat generators, i.e. bulbs).
