longra
So, has anyone tried seeding a homemade "live" rock with fragments from a well-established live rock? How about seeding it in a tank with a well-established live rock? Just thinkin' that it might be a good way to have lots of beautiful live rock in our tanks without having to spend a boat-load of money on them and snatching them out of the oceans Link to comment
coralreefengr
That will work just fine. I started will all manufactured rock and added some live sand. It will all become inhabited by nitrifying bacteria and covered in coralline. CRE Link to comment
freakaccident
Some guy on ebay sells dead rock from the carribean or something really cheap. Search for it and seed it with a couple pounds of LR from the LFS. Link to comment
Chamkeeper
I buy the $1 a pound dead coral rock and seed it with a good piece of live rock. Under good lighting, all of the rock is live after just a few months. Link to comment
pipefish
I also dump in a handful of Chaetomorpha (spagetti macro) from the refugium. It seems to speed up the process and adds some diversity. Link to comment
