AquaJamieB
I am wanting to build a reef in my 45 gallon tank. Any suggestions for what equipment I should use? I already have an Emperor 400, heater, undergravel plate, and crushed coral. What else should I go for? Lighting? other substrate? Protein skimmer? I wont be able to use a sump/refugium, so any suggestions would be preferred for hangon types. Thanks, I am looking forward to getting started. Link to comment
Crakeur
ditch the undergravel plate. Ditch the crushed coral. get another powerhead or two for added circulation. Figure out what kind of corals you want to keep as this will dictate lighting. Consider a hang on refugium since a sump is out of the question (not a necessity but a 45 gallon reef could use a sump in my opinion). Get some fine grade sand, such as southdown and seed it with some live sand from an existing tank. Link to comment
