horsehunter
Has anyone ever found Southdown sand in Ontario? If not what are you using? Thanks Frank Link to comment
Masoch
FWIW, my local Rona (Toronto Stockyards) had beach play sand today that looks suspiciously like my expensive Caribsea aragonite. For DSB's, check out Dr. Ron's forum at ReefCentral. He's the evangelist of the DSB and seems convinced that you can use almost any clean, fine sand (someone's using crushed marble with his blessing). But ... there have been recent doubts expressed on ReefCentral about contamination in play sand (heavy metals and the like). No idea who or what to believe here ... And ... if you want the hardcore DIY route, you can buy oyster shells at farm supply stores -- they're used to make chicken feed. Grind them fine enough ... and cure 'em to get rid of organics ... and you'd have your own homemade aragonite There are threads about this here and there. Link to comment
