MiKeE
it depends.. do you have alot of corals? fish? do you have a protein skimmer? if you do have alot of corals and fish in there, you may have to add extra additives, but doing water change often should be sufficient enough to replenish your trace elements... and if you also use a protein skimmer, its best to buy a reliable test kit like salifert and test your water before adding additives.... for my 7 gallon tank, i use a queen protein skimmer, have alot of fish, sps and 3 clams, so i do have to add additives... for me to keep these following parameters : calcium - 410-440ppm (salifert) strontium - 8-10mg/L (salifert) iodine - .06-.08ppm (salifert) boron - 4.4-4.6mg/L(salifert) Ph - 8.2-8.3 (tetra) Alk - 2.9-3.2meq/l (salifert) nitrate - 0.02-0.10 (salifert) nitrite - 0.002 (salifert) i have to do 8 cups of water change every week, whenever i add less, i notice that my nitrate levels reaches .10 and doing more raises my alk up to 3.8..so i feel that 8 cups is neccesary for my tank.. to keep up with the other parameters, i have to add 1ml B-ionic bottle1, and 3ml B-ionic bottle2 and last 2ml of reef solutions... BTW.. i use tropic marin salt... i get better results with it.. Link to comment
