matty0206
Lots of water changes? What kinda supplements? Link to comment
fish2223
I do a 10% water change every month or so. I add a capful (5mm) of calcium, iodine and magnesium weekly. That's it. Tank has been established for over 6 years. I am starting to get bored with it and will probably tear down and start an anemone dedicated tank. dls Lots of water changes? What kinda supplements? mjhonda2002
I hope you know that you will probably have to get rid of the blue tang. Im not being mean i am just saying so you know. But nice tank. Link to comment
non-photosynt
Beautiful tank. Can you give more details: light, salt mix, temperature, flow, location of the flow, filter, media, frequency of change, feeding, quantity and frequency, clean-up crew. Anything else what you think made existence of such tank possible, in addition to yourself . It really a rare case. Link to comment
fish2223
yeah.... I heard the same warning 6 years ago when I purchased the purple tang. Fish as been a model tank mate. Thanks you your concern. Dennis I hope you know that you will probably have to get rid of the blue tang. Im not being mean i am just saying so you know. But nice tank. Link to comment
fish2223
Here's some info: I use the KISS (keep it simple stupid) method of reef keeping. Light is provided by a 175 MH 20K bulb - 9 hrs. per day and 2 40w T-5 actinics - 10 hrs. per day. I use pre-mixed salt water (Catalina) purchased at LFS for monthly 10% water changes and vending machine (RO/DI) water for top offs. I feed (fish and corals) 4-5 times a week with a homemade recipe. Just a pinch or 2 goes a long way. A have a few snails. My tank seems to be in perfect balance - in spite of many naysayers who have told me for years that one day it will crash! Of course most of there tanks of crashed more than once in the meantime. I think circulation is very important! I have a Tunze pump. I also believe it is important to keep your hands out of the tank as much as possible! HTH Dennis Beautiful tank. You are feeding once a day, right? Turbo snails, I assume. What is Tunze pump, where are you keeping it - closed loop, with 2 inflows in the top corners of the tank? Do you have a larger picture, with equipment visible? What brand of supplements are you using - ESV? I'm practically living in my 90g tank - 3 times daily fish feeding, 3 cubes for a sun coral only twice a week (arm in tank), every other day basting and vacuuming, turning hermits and returning frags that were dropped... And all this with the sump and skimmer. Live and learn. Link to comment
fish2223
I am feeding once a day 4 or 5 times a week. No turbo snails for me - much too much and like to mow things over. I have mostly cerith snails. Do a goggle on "Tunze pump", you'll find lots of good info. I do NOT have a closed loop or inflows. Pump is placed in upper left corner. I don't have a pic with equipment visible - THERE IS NO EQUIPMENT, EXCEPT THE PUMP! I buy whichever supplement is all sale. I have been using Kent lately. Some advice stop feeding the fish so much - they will survive with feeding once a day. Limit vacuuming to once a month, unless you have lots of diatoms. KEEP YOUR HAND OUT OF THE TANK! dls Thanks! non-photosynt
Thanks! One pump, no spray bar, no heater or filter? Side note: would like to follow your advice, but have the wrong kind of fish, it has to be fed at least 3x daily. Link to comment
